Michael provides amazing, professional, modestly draped, swedish massage at your home, hotel or office. Relaxing and restorative, swedish techniques restore balance, returning muscle tone to normal, eliminating tension and relieving trigger points, adhesions and fascial restrictions. Swedish massage is the most common and well known style of massage throughout the west. Many permutations of Swedish exist with different names to emphasize their particular emphasis. Esalen (My Intuit offering) is a variation of Swedish. Deep tissue is essentially Swedish. As there is so much unskilled Swedish being offered, clients have come to ask for "Deep Tissue" to indicate that they wish to feel deeply contacted and want attention to trigger points and muscle tension. That is, however, an essential purpose of Swedish and the distinction should be unnecessary. Swedish can and frequently does, include stretching and joint mobilization, much like Thai massage, though it is best known for Effleurage (gliding), Petrissage (Wringing and compression) and Tapotement (Oscillation) techniques. These French terms arose from followers of Dr. Johann Metzger, a Dutch Physician who popularized the Swedish Movement Cure as it was then known. Per-Henrik Ling, a Swedish Fencing instructor, had formalized the techniques earlier for rehabilitation and strengthening, but was not accepted by the medical community due to their bias against a non-physician, notwithstanding the efficacy of the work.
